Sustainable livestock farming
We are the executing agency of the Sustainable Darien Project, which in 5 years allowed us to implement a sustainable landscape management model in cattle ranches and rural areas of the Filo del Tallo-Canglón Hydrological Reserve in Darien, to conserve biodiversity, restore forests, reduce deforestation and improve the livelihoods of its inhabitants.

Traditional livestock production is moving towards silvopastoral systems (SSP), with 73 farms and 5,000 hectares now generating environmental and socio-economic benefits.

Biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use are strengthened through integrated planning, with 168 participatory plans, more than 9,000 hectares under farm planning, 104 hectares restored and 45,968 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent emissions avoided. Thanks to the project, 36 eco-gardens have also been implemented, resulting in the production of more than 1,400 kg of healthy food that contributes to community well-being and food security.

The project integrates monitoring, evaluation and knowledge exchange, with 700 people trained (265 women and 435 men) and more than 5,900 children and adolescents benefiting from environmental education.
